Bakgrund

Fibromyalgi [FM] är en långvarig smärtsjukdom som innebär långvarig och utbredd smärta i muskler och skelett. Sjukdomen innebär inte enbart smärta utan även trötthet, sömnstörningar samt psykiska besvär. Diagnosen ställs utifrån symtom och uteslutning av andra sjukdomar. Behandlingen innefattar både mediciner, fysiska aktiviteter samt kognitiv terapi.

Syfte

Syftet var att beskriva personers upplevelser av att leva med fibromyalgi

Metod

Icke-systematisk litteraturöversikt som baserats på 12 vetenskapliga artiklar, identifierade genom strukturerade sökningar i databaserna PubMed och CINAHL. Söktermer togs fram med stöd av bibliotekarie och artiklarnas kvalitet granskades utifrån ett Sophiahemmets Högskolas bedömningsunderlag för vetenskaplig gruppering och kvalitet. Resultatet har sammanställts med en integrerad dataanalys.

Resultat

I resultatet har tre huvudkategorier och sex subkategorier identifierats. Huvudkategorierna är identitet och självbild i förändring, sociala relationer och omgivningens bemötande samt kroppslig påverkan. Till huvudkategorin sociala relationer och omgivningens bemötande identifierades subkategorierna stigmatisering, ifrågasättande och oförståelse, behov av stöd och gemenskap. Till huvudkategorin kroppslig påverkan identifierades subkategorierna sömn, trötthet och fysisk smärta och vardagsfunktion och kognitiv påverkan. Resultatet visar att FM orsakar ett mångfacetterat lidande som påverkar flera aspekter av livet, där förändring i fysiska, psykologiska, sociala och praktiska var centrala perspektiv. Samtidigt finns ett starkt behov av stöd och gemenskap.

Slutsats

Litteraturstudien belyser hur individer med fibromyalgi erfar ett djupt existentiellt lidande som påverkar både identitet, relationer och vardagliga funktioner. Ett respektfullt och förstående bemötande från vårdpersonal och närstående kan mildra detta lidande, medan bristande kunskap och misstro tenderar att förvärra situationen. Med utgångspunkt i Katie Eriksson omvårdnadsteori betonas vikten av ett helhetsperspektiv där sjuksköterskans roll är att uppmärksamma individers livsvärld och bidra till att återuppta mening och värdighet i tillvaron.

Background 

Fibromyalgia [FM] is a chronic pain condition that involves long lasting and widespread pain in muscles and skeleton. The disease does not only cause pain but also includes fatigue, sleep disturbances and psychological issues. Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis without a clear cause and can vary greatly from person to person. The diagnosis is made based on symptom’s and ruling out other illnesses. Treatment includes medication, physical activity, and cognitive therapy.

Aim 

The aim was to explore individuals’ experiences of living whit fibromyalgia

Method 

A non-systematic literature review was conducted based on 12 scientific articles, identified trough structured searches in the PubMed and CINAHL databases. Search terms were developed with the support of a librarian, and the quality of the articles was assessed using Sophiahemmets University´s evaluation framework for scientific categorization and quality. The results were compiled using integrated data analysis.

Results 

The results identified three main categories and six subcategories. The main categories are: Change in identity and self-image, social relationships and the response of others, and physical impact. To the main category social relationships and the response of others was the subcategories Stigma, questioning and lack of understanding, The need of support and sense of belonging identified. To the main category physical impact was the subcategories sleep, tiredness and physical pain and everyday function and cognitive effects identified. The findings demonstrate that fibromyalgia causes a multifaceted form of suffering that affects numerous aspects of life, physical, psychological, social, and practical. At the same time, there is a strong expressed need for support and a sense of belonging.

Conclusions 

This thesis highlight’s how individuals with fibromyalgia experience profound existential suffering that effect their identity, relationships, and daily functioning. A respectful and understanding approach from healthcare professionals and loved ones can help alleviate this distress, while lack of knowledge and mistrust often worsen the situation. Based on Katie Eriksson’s theory, the importance of ac holistic perspective is emphasized, where nurse’s role is to recognize the individuals lived experience and help restore a sense of meaning and dignity in life.
