Bakgrund: Hjärttransplantation är en livsavgörande och den bästa behandlingen för personer med sviktande hjärtfunktion. Att genomgå en hjärttransplantation är en omfattande process och personer behöver genomgå hjärtkirurgi, livslång läkemedelsbehandling, kontinuerliga uppföljningar, risk för både fysiska och psykiska komplikationer och egenvård. Globalt ökade antalet hjärttransplantationer med 53 procent mellan år 2011 och 2022. För en ökad personcentrerad vård och stöd för personer efter hjärttransplantation är det aktuellt att sammanställa forskning kring personers upplevelser av livet efter hjärttransplantation.

Syfte: Att beskriva vuxna personers upplevelser av livet efter en hjärttransplantation. 

Metod: Studien genomfördes som en icke-systematisk litteraturöversikt av kvalitativa studier, där 12 vetenskapliga artiklar inkluderades. Datainsamlingen skedde genom sökningar i databaserna PubMed och CINAHL. Artiklarna kvalitetsgranskades med hjälp av Sophiahemmets Högskolas modifierade bedömningsunderlag. Resultatet sammanställdes och analyserades genom en integrerad dataanalys.

Resultat: Tre huvudkategorier identifierades; upplevelser av psykologiskt mående, upplevelser av relationer och stödsystem samt upplevelser av förändringar och hantering. Resultatet visade flera olika utmaningar efter hjärttransplantation. Svårigheterna bestod av psykologiska, sociala, fysiska och praktiska aspekter. Stöd och hanteringsstrategier visade sig vara viktigt för att hantera nya livssituationen.

Slutsats: Upplevelser efter hjärttransplantation är komplexa och består av både glädje och stark tacksamhet, samtidigt skildrar upplevelser svårigheter. Med ökad kunskap om deras upplevelser av svårigheter kan sjuksköterskor och annan vårdpersonal med bättre förutsättningar upptäcka behov och stötta personer efter en hjärttransplantation.

Background: Heart transplantation is a vital and the best treatment for people with failing heart function. Receiving a heart transplantation means going through a cardiac surgery, lifelong treatment with medications, continuous follow-ups, risks for physical and psychiatric complications and self-care. Globally, the number of performed heart transplants has increased by 53 percent between 2011 and 2022. For a person-centred care and support for people after a heart transplantation it is relevant to compile studies of their experiences.

Aim: The aim was to describe adults' experiences of life after a heart transplant.

Method: The study was conducted as a non-systematic literature review of qualitative studies, where 12 scientific articles were included. Collection was carried out through searches in the PubMed and CINAHL databases. The articles were quality-reviewed using Sophiahemmet University's modified assessment criteria. The results were compiled and analyzed through an integrated data analysis.

Results: Three main categories were identified: experiences of psychological well-being, experiences of relationships and support systems, and experiences of changes and coping. The results showed several challenges after heart transplantation. The difficulties consisted of psychological, social, physical and practical aspects. Support and coping strategies were shown to be important in managing the new life situation.

Conclusions: Experiences after heart transplantation are complex and consist of both happiness and strong gratitude, at the same time the experiences showcase difficulties. With an increased knowledge of people's experiences of these difficulties, nurses and other healthcare professionals can better identify needs and support people after a heart transplant.
