SAMMANFATTNING

Bakgrund  

Palliativ vård innebär mycket mer än bara att vårda en person i livets slutskede. Sjuksköterskan bör ha ett holistiskt synsätt på vårdandet samt omvårdnaden ska ske med beaktande för personen i livets sluts välbefinnande och värdighet. Arbetet innebär många aspekter där stöd och tröst för både anhöriga och personen i livets slut är en stor del. Vikten av ett fungerande team samt hanteringsstrategier är av stor betydelse vid svåra situationer inom vårdandet. Givet dessa svåra situationer betonas vikten av erfarenhet samt utbildning för att kunna tillhandahålla god personcentrerad palliativ vård vid livets slut. 

Syfte

Syftet var att belysa sjuksköterskans erfarenhet av att vårda personer i livets slutskede på akutsjukhus.

Metod

Den icke systematiska litteraturstudien är baserad på 15 vetenskapliga kvalitativa och kvantitativa originalartiklar sökta från databaserna CINAHL och PubMed. Vidare granskades detta enligt Sophiahemmet Högskolas bedömningsunderlag modifierat utifrån Berg et al. (1999) och Willman et al. (2011). Litteraturstudien följer mallen enligt en integrerad dataanalys.

Resultat

Resultatet presenteras enligt två huvudkategorier; Nyckeln till god palliativ vård och den emotionella påverkan av att ge palliativ vård. Resultatet betonade vikten av ett fungerande team, erfarenhet, copingstrategier samt kommunikation.

Slutsats

Givet fynden hittade i litteraturstudien visar det på erfarenheter kring vårdandet av personer i livets slut av sjuksköterskor och hur alla delar måste fungera för att en ska klara av de svåra stunderna inom yrket. Litteraturstudien betonar vikten av erfarenhet och utbildning kring palliativ vård.

ABSTRACT

Background

Palliative care involves much more than just caring for a person at the end of life. The nurse should have a holistic mindset in the care and the caring should pay regard to the persons’ well-being and dignity. The work implies many aspects where support and comfort for both the family and the person at the end of life is highly important. The importance of a functioning team and coping strategies are of great importance in difficult situations. Given these difficult situations, the importance of experience and education to be able to prove good person-centred palliative care at the end of life is furthermore emphasized.

Aim

The aim for this literature review was to illustrate nurse’s experiences of caring for people in the final stages of life in an emergency hospital.

Method

The non-systematic literature review is based on 15 scientifically qualitative and quantitative original articles searched from the databases CINAHL and PubMed. Furthermore, these articles were quality-reviewed according to Sophiahemmet University’s assessment data modified on the basis of Berg et al., (1999) and Willman et al., (2011). The literature review follows the template according to an integrated data analysis.

Results

Result was presented according to two main categories; The key to good palliative care and the emotional impact of providing palliative care. The results emphasized the importance of a functioning team, experiences within the field, coping strategies and good communication.

Conclusions

Given the findings from the literature review, it shows that experiences around end-of-life care by nurses are highly dependent on that all parts must function in order for nurses to be able to cope with difficult moments at work. Furthermore, the literature review has emphasized the importance of experience and education in palliative care.
