Bakgrund

Fem miljoner dödsfall orsakas i världen varje år av skador med eller utan avsikt vilket medför ett stort folkhälsoproblem. Trauma är i Sverige den vanligaste dödsorsaken hos människor under 40 år. Forskare har även kunnat identifiera ett samband mellan expone- ring av traumatiska händelser och utvecklingen av posttraumatiskt stressymptom. Sjukskö- terskan möter ofta patienter som genomgått ett trauma och ser deras lidande i samband med detta.

Syfte

Syftet var att belysa patientens upplevelse av sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsarbete i samband med trauma.

Metod

En litteraturöversikt genomfördes med 20 utvalda studier från flera olika länder där både kvalitativa och kvantitativa studier inkluderades utifrån databaserna PubMed och CI- NAHL. Dessa studier analyserades enligt en integrerad analys och granskades utifrån Sophiahemmets Högskolas underlag.

Resultat

Resultaten visade att lindrat lidande, ökad delaktighet, information till patienten, socialt stöd samt att förebygga förekomsten av psykisk ohälsa var viktigt för patienterna i sam- band med trauma. Deras lidande lindrades när de upplevde att de mottog en högkvalitativ vård.

Slutsats

Sjuksköterskan spelade en stor roll för patienternas upplevelse av traumasituationen. Om- vårdnaden var viktig då patienterna ofta befann sig i en utsatt situation. Att sjuksköterskan tog sig tid till att informera och kommunicera med patienterna visade sig viktigt för deras upplevelse. De flesta patienterna uppgav att kvalitativ vård och ett bra bemötande ledde till att de kunde känna sig trygga samt att deras lidande lindrades.

Background

Injuries with or without intent cause five million deaths every year, causing a major public health problem. In Sweden trauma is the most common cause of death for people under the age 40. Researchers have also been able to identify a link between exposure to traumatic events and the development of post-traumatic stress symptoms. The nurse often meets pa- tients who have undergone trauma and sees their suffering.

Aim

The aim of the study was to shed light on the patient’s experience of nursing in connection with trauma.

Method

A literature review with 20 selected studies from several different countries where both qualitative and quantitative studies were included. These studies were analyzed according to an integrated analysis method and examined by the assessment basis of Sophiahemmet University.

Results

The results showed that alleviating suffering, participation, information, social support and preventing the occurrence of mental illness was important for patients in connection with trauma. Their suffering was alleviated when they felt they received high quality care.

Conclusion

The nurse plays a major role in the patients’ experience of a trauma situation. Nursing is important as patients are often in vulnerable situation. The fact that the nurse takes time to inform and communicate with the patient has proved important for their experience. Most patients state that qualitative and attentive care results in being able to feel safe and to alle- viate their suffering.
